New Year's Resolutions

A New Year’s Resolution is a promise to yourself to improve your life in some way. You can improve your life by starting something new, by trying harder at something, by cutting down on something, or even quitting something. OR we can just keep doing what we are doing now.

BILL MACK- CHRISTMAS IS ALL AROUND (Love Actually)

This is the first scene of the film Love Actually ( 2003). Watch the video and correct the sentences:

I feel it in my head, I feel it in my head
I feel it in my shoes
Gold is all around us and so the feeling....
(- I'm sorry you did it again Jim!
-It's just I know the new version so badly, you see
- Well, they all do, that's why we're doing a new version.
-Right, good, let's go.)
I feel it in my head, I feel it in my head
I feel it in my shoes
Gold is all around us ...
(- Oh ............................. Start now)
I feel it in my head, I feel it in my head
I feel it in my shoes
Gold is all around us and so the feeling goes
It's spoken in the rain
It's nowhere I go
So if you really like Easter
Come on and let it show
(-This is great, isn't it?
- Yeap, solid great silver my son)

You can enjoy the whole song below:

DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? FEED THE WORLD (Band Aid 1984)

BAND AID  was the name of the group that recorded the original song "Do they know it's Christmas?". Bob Geldof and Midget Ure wrote the song that was recorded by a group of the 40 best-known pop stars of the time. The song was performed at the Live Aid Concert held at the Wembley Stadium on 25th November 1984. The reason for the concert was to raise money for the victims of the famine in Ethiopia. The concert lasted 16 hours and raised over 100 million pounds.

Attacks in Paris

This cartoon is by Chapatte from NZZ am Sonntag, Zurich. It shows the Eifel Tower, Paris most important symbol, being destroyed with a bomb explosion. Today the world is in commotion after the terrorists attacks in Paris as you probably have seen on the television or in the news.

Read and listen to the news report on this tragic event below.

Across Central Paris, at least 120 people died in gun and bomb attacks. The attacks started at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday night.
People heard explosions at a stadium in the north of the city. An hour later, shootings at a bar and a restaurant happened around 5 miles from the stadium. Fourteen people died in those two incidents.
The deadliest attack took place at a concert hall around 11 p.m. A concert was taking place when four gunmen entered the hall and started shooting into the crowd. More than 80 people died.
These are the deadliest attacks in Europe since the 2004 Madrid bombing.

Difficult words: incident (a situation when something very good or very bad happens), crowd (a lot of people).

If you feel self-confident enough, try watching the complete piece of news.

Now, browse the Internet for some news and  write a post with a short summary in 80 words. Include at least 4 news words with the Catalan translation and a link to a dictionary. Add the source and a photo too.
To illustrate your summary create a word cloud or Wordle. Use significant words from the summary in your Wordle. To create it click here and follow the instructions. You can also use ImageChef.

Halloween Creatures in Books and Films

Most monsters and frightening creatures that are now popular in Halloween first appeared in books and in films. Some were traditional folk myths and others were inventions of some writers or film directors.

Browse the Internet for your favourite monster, pick up a photo and then collect information about it. Answer the 6 Ws: when, where, what, who, why, how. Create a slide presentation using SCRIBD or any other online programme and record your first podcast with your findings. Remember, your podcast needs to be minimum 1 minute long.

Halloween Riddles

Who are these monsters, ghosts, creatures, goblins, phantoms,…? Send me a comment with your answers.

(1) I was wrapped in white and buried in my tomb a long time ago. Now, I wait in the dark with my golden treasures all around. Outside the sand piles high over top my tomb.
(2) I am a monster that has been on a diet. There is no fat on me! Or muscle either! You might say that I am all skin and bones --without the skin. I rattle when I walk. And my teeth chatter when I talk.
 (3) I come from far, far away. Most people think I am green and hideous. But really I am not so bad. I am just looking for a few Earthlings to put in my zoo back on my home planet.

(4) Welcome! Have a seat. Dinner will be served shortly. Sorry we don't have any garlic bread. I can't stand it. What am I drinking you ask? Don't worry . . . it's . . um . . . grape juice. Now just relax while I look at your neck.
(5) I walk through walls as I please.  Sometimes you can see me and sometimes you can't. I moan and I groan. I rattle chains. You find me in old houses, graveyards, and castles.
(6)  Most of the time, you would never guess I was a monster because I look just like you. But once a month, I let my hair down and howl at the moon.  But beware! If I bite you will become like me.

(7) Made of metal, I do the work of my master who controls me by remote control. My master made me to take over the world.
(8) Dressed in black, I brew potions, I cast spells, and I put curses on people. If you bother me or my cat, you'll sit on a lily pad and eat flies.
(9) I live under bridges and in caves. I eat travelers that pass my way. I am large and ugly. I carry a club. Think of a word that rhymes with 'roll.'
